I really liked this book and most of the main characters. I’m torn because I would give 5 stars for a complete book but it’s not a full bork. Have to wait until the next comes. I guess I just thought it would be a complete book based on it being boys of tommen so each book in the series the boys would get a book but this left on a cliffhanger. This could’ve been complete book as some things could’ve been taken out of it the author thought it was too long. Ugh I don’t know, I will read the next because I hate not having the complete story, and this book was well written with interesting main characters. The characters were developed well and felt a connection between the main characters but it’s so disappointing it wasn’t finished.Tags : Binding 13: Boys of Tommen #1 - Kindle edition by Chloe Walsh. Binding 13 Boys of Tommen #1 edition by Chloe Walsh Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I just need to preface this by saying I detest YA romance... It's not my cup of tea and I actively do my best to not read anything with characters under age 25...
With that being said while Chloe killed me with another stunning cliffhanger... I absolutely LOVED this book... It will make you laugh and it will break your heart...the supporting cast is dynamic and add dimension to the story... They are not useless props for the background... Chloe truly writes and evolved all her characters giving each their own distinct voice and personality...
I rarely give 5 stars to any book, they truly have to be a story that sticks with you and will remember the characters and feeling evoked for years to come... This book does exactly that even when the genre is not something I would normally read...
If you are looking for witty banter, a book that will make you feel something...this is a must read book...
If it was possible to rate this book higher than 5 stars, I would, because all the other books that I’ve previously rated 5 stars have now been put to shame. I don’t know how I can even begin to possibly explain how much I loved it. I’m left speechless but yet have so much to say… does that even make sense? Probably not, because I’m wrapped up in so many emotions right now and my thoughts are a jumbled mess…
This story is not your typical teenage angst drama with the standard hot and cold, back and forth plot line dealing with the romantic relationship of the main characters. That kind of story line has been played out so many times and to be honest, I’m so over it.
It’s hard for me to put into words, but Binding 13 didn’t even feel like a story. It felt like real life that I had a front row seat to witness. Everything was so gradual but hooks you from the very first page. It’s a slow burn, one that heated my bones, singed my heart and seared my soul. The innocence, the emotion and the purity of the storytelling, where it is all about the story, was done to perfection, but also kept light-hearted with all the hilarity, banter and awkward teenage moments that had me in tears from laughing.
Chloe Walsh has never disappointed with her amazing storytelling skills, her phenomenal writing, characters and her ability to captivate her readers and pull them into her books. And that’s exactly what she did here, but added so much more depth and raw emotion than she ever has before. She created a whole new cast of characters that were so thoroughly fleshed out that you can’t help but to submerge yourself into their lives, understand their thoughts and their feelings, and watch them grow day by day. Johnny, Shannon, Gibsie… all of these characters caressed my heart and gave it one hell of a smile. They are definitely unforgettable, especially Gibsie. That kid was a barrel of laughs and his banter kept this story fun during moments of conflict.
Johhny stole my heart and ruined me for all other book boyfriends. (Sorry to my other book boyfriends because I’ve just broken up with ALL of you.) The way he would fiercely defend and protect Shannon had me completely swooning and melted the ice from my cold heart. He was so sweet, so gentle and kind with her, but he was still all alpha in all the ways that mattered.
Shannon’s character may have seemed fragile, and yes, she absolutely was fragile, but that girl had strength… because how can you not be anything but strong when you keep taking beatings day after day like she has dealing with bullies and an abusive parent? Ever so slowly, Johnny brings her out of her shell and her character ended up growing the most in this book.
Now, here’s the part where I’m going to warn you, but not to scare you away… this book is HUGE. The length of this book is over 225K words. I’ll admit, the page count did frighten me at first, but once I started reading I was glued. Work, kids, husband, housework were ignored because I couldn’t peel my eyes away from the pages for a second, and now I’m regretting not savoring it a bit longer. I actually wanted it to be longer, but never fear! It wouldn’t be a true Chloe Walsh book without a cliffhanger, which means I get more of Johnny and Shannon in the next book in the series, Keeping 13. I get to see their love blossom and grow because these two are the forever kind of love, the love you live and breathe for. The epic kind of love.
“I think I need you for keeps.”
“I think I need you for keeps, too.”

This was the first book I have read by Chloe Walsh. I enjoy indie authors, and I like to support them. There is always a raw quality to indie books that I find appealing. The rules are more forgiving, and because of that, you have the possibility for a more gritty experience. Binding 13 definitely reminds me of why I love indie books.
Binding 13 is for mature audiences. This is in no way YA. The story revolves around teenagers, as young as 15, but that is where any reference to the young adult genre ends. There is an abundance of foul language and many, many references to sexual behavior. There is also violence. A good portion being domestic violence, which can be triggering for some readers, so I'd like to mention it.
Constructive criticism This book needed a good editor. Some of the inner monologues turned into rambling, and at times went off the proverbial cliff. I would skip a page here and there just because I was starting to read the same things over and over. Also, most of the book was written with each sentence starting with an indent like starting a new paragraph. This was very distracting and it took me awhile to get used to it.
What I loved the depth of each character. Johnny and Shannon are broken in their own ways, yet they find each other to help mend their souls and find purpose in each other. It is a rocky and tumultous build up to a relationship with alot of frustration. Yet there is also a lot of humor in the book that I found to perfectly offset the heavy subject matter.
No silly and hollow plot devices like pregnancy blackmail. (Thank you, Ms. Walsh!)
The different PoV was done very well.
I thought the secondary characters were fantastic and really helped to add depth to the story.
Finally, I really appreciated the ingenuity used to write a mature story about a 15 year old and 17 year with NO sex, yet it kept the mature reader engaged.
Fair warning this book ends in a cliffhanger.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this book, and I am excited and waiting for the next installment!
