Emma is sweet and lovable, but my goodness calm the crap down. This is literally the same set up as the first book in the Bridal Quartet where Mac is a bit gun shy due to past hurts with her parents divorce. Except in that book her fears are totally rational and Carter is this great guy that gives her time. Here we are in book two and Jack is the gun shy guy and instead of being understanding, or hey maybe having an adult conversation about it-like hey maybe give all those young women out there a view at what you 'should' do if you have a problem- and Emma just goes off the deep end. Every little sign she takes and bottles up and then flips her lid when he has a bad day. Dude he's human! If I got pissed every time my husband came home grumpy because he had a bad day we could not be together, freaking take a walk in his shoes-oh wait we did with Mac! And it was totally cool, but no perfect little Emma needs her fairy tale romance and then her three pitbull friends stop him from even talking to her-I'm sorry but is this your business AT ALL? No. This isn't a book for adults, this is a book for preteens, the maturity level is the same. Besides that I will say I love the weddings, the descriptions, and the obvious passion the characters have for their fields, these parts were enjoyable, reading the romance portion was like watching two twelve year olds date, and then the sex scenes omgosh I skipped them, they were ridiculously over dramatic, no body talks that way, and frankly every time she described an orgasm instead of titillating it sounded painful.

Bed of Roses The Bride Quartet Book 2 Nora Roberts 9780425230077 Books Reviews

In my opinion, this book is not the same caliber work Ms. Roberts usually delivers. It was good, but not spectacular. It wounds me to say that because I'm an avid fan.

I bought ROSES from , when I swore I wouldn't do so. One of my Mother's Day gifts was the third book in this quartet. I wanted to read them in order, right away, so I ordered VISIONS and ROSES. It was upsetting to have to spend nearly $10.00 a piece to get them. Then, when I go to write this review, I see the price has been lowered by over $2.00. Thanks so much from a stay at home mom raising five kids on one income!

A lot of this is just a repeat of my review of VISIONS IN WHITE.

The life-long friendships are a nice touch and became stronger in this book.

The weddings that go on are touching, but I learned way more than I wanted to know about wedding planners.

Before VISIONS I hadn't written a review on any of Ms. Roberts' work because I figured everyone who read her would be a huge fan and my reviews would be lost in the multitude of other glowing reviews. It feels quite odd to write something less than a stellar review for an author I admire so very much. Still, I did enjoy this tale. If you enjoy romances, chances are you'll enjoy this tale, too. There is no bad guy in these tales, just emotions and connections. Really, for a change of pace, these books are an enjoyable way to pass some time.

I originally began reading this series upon the recommendation of a friend. I had not read any Nora Roberts previously, but I am glad I picked up these books. As stated in my review for "Vision in White", the premise of the series is four childhood friends who start out life "playing wedding" and eventually grow up to run their own wedding business. Each handles a different aspect of the business and together they are the "go-to" wedding planners in their area. Parker is the organizational brains, Laurel does cakes and desserts, Emma does all the flower arranging and garden planning, and Mackensie is the photographer. Each book in this series highlights a different one of the partners and the development of their own HEA. "Bed of Roses" is the second book in the series, and features Emma in the lead role.

I enjoyed this book slightly more than I did "Vision in White". The story follows the romance of Emma and Jack, friends since young adulthood. This book is a little more formulaic than "Vision", following the traditional "boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl-back, everyone-lives-Happily-Ever-After", but that did not detract from the story at all. I did feel that this book moved along a bit quicker than the first, and the action/conflict in this book was a little more involved. The reader does get a better feel for the four main female characters in the series, and learns more about the background of their relationship as friends. There are also some continuations of larger story arcs either begun or hinted at in Book One, but before this book was over, I was able to figure out who the romantic leads of the remaining two books would be, even without looking at book descriptions. In that respect, Ms. Roberts could do a better job at avoiding predictability.

The main storyline of this book involves Emma, floral arranger at Vows, and Jack, consulting architect and close friend of the family. As the majority of these characters have all been friends since high school (or before), the friendships are intertwined to the point that they are more like brothers and sisters than just friends. This dynamic plays a larger role when it comes to the attraction felt between Emma and Jack. Additionally, there is the peril of each losing a valued friendship if the personal relationship between the two does not work out. Each of the characters has a vested interest on the success or failure of a relationship between Emma and Jack. Those interests add to and enhance the storyline conflict.

Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying this series. The storylines are easy to follow, the characters well-written and gathering depth with each book, and while "Bed of Roses" is traditional romance, it is also romance with gusto. As stated earlier, the larger story arcs begun in "Vision" are continued here, hopefully leading to a culmination in the fourth book. I look forward to completing this series.

Quick guide
* Storyline - Easy to follow, involving realistic conflict between characters
* Characters - Better development here than in first book, but still very well written
* Romance/Sex Scenes - Significantly increased number in this book, versus the first book, and of a more graphic nature. Still within the realm of traditional romances, but a lot more description of who is doing what to whom
* Audience - High school and up
